Both Obstetrical and Gynecologic Ultrasounds can be done in the privacy of our office.  The preparation for each type of exam is listed below.  Please follow the instructions carefully.  Patients who arrive without the appropriate preparation may need to be rescheduled.

OB Ultrasounds:

Allow 45 minutes for this exam.  Twins or multiples need to allow 1 to 1 ˝ hours for the exam.  All patients less than 24 weeks must drink 40 oz. of fluid   1 ˝ hours prior to ensure a full.  DO NOT GO TO THE BATHROOM UNTIL AFTER THE EXAM!!  Patients over 24 weeks DO NOT need to fill their bladder. Video taping is available - bring a tape! (or you can purchase one here for $7.00) You will only be allowed to bring 2 visitors in with you.  Others will not be allowed in the ultrasound room.  If this is a patient request Ultrasound (for sex only) it will not be covered by insurance and must be paid for in full at the time of the exam.

Biophysical Profiles:

Allow 30 minutes for this exam.  You DO NOT need to fill your bladder.  No video taping is done with this exam.

Amniotic Fluid Index:

Allow 15 minutes for this exam.  You DO NOT need to fill your bladder. No video taping is done with this exam.

Pelvic Ultrasounds:

Allow 30 minutes for this exam. This may require an internal exam.  Patients must drink 40 oz. of fluid 1 ˝ hours prior to appointment and finish 30 minutes prior to appointment to ensure a full bladder.  DO NOT GO THE THE BATHROOM UNTIL AFTER THE EXAM !!!

Gallbladder Ultrasounds:

The day before the exam, you need to have a low fat diet (nothing fried or fatty).  Starting at midnight, you are to have nothing by mouth until after your exam. Do not eat, drink, smoke or chew gum.  You are allowed to brush your teeth, and use mouthwash, but do not swallow any liquids other than a small amount of water.  If you have to take medications and cannot wait until after your appointment, you may do so with a small amount  of water only.

Renal Ultrasounds:

Do not eat anything for 4 hours prior to the exam.  You may however, drink anything you would like.

Remember that any ultrasound pictures you receive at the time of the exam are heat sensitive.  Sunlight and/or laminating will destroy them.

IMPORTANT REMINDERS!

Anyone more than 15 minutes late will be rescheduled.

Children must be supervised by an adult other than the patient.  Patients with unsupervised children will be rescheduled.

If you need to cancel, please 24 hours prior to appointment, and notify our secretary for any rescheduling needs.
