At Piedmont Obstetrics and Gynecology we offer therapeutic massage for pain reduction, stress relief and relaxation. Teressa Harris RMT, provides this service for men and women (including obstetrical patients in the 2nd and 3rd trimesters).

A growing number of men and women have found therapeutic massage to be a valuable addition to their health and fitness routines, and an effective complement to other health care services. Many people seek therapeutic massage as a natural means to promote healthy body functioning, and to enhance the body's own restorative powers. Massage can trigger a relaxation response as well as relieve many of the mental and physical problems caused by prolonged stress. Massage can be thought of as a 1 hour vacation from stress ~ a get-away from life and its challenges. During a massage you create a peaceful space and give yourself permission to relax. Recent research has confirmed that massage for relaxation reduces anxiety and increases feelings of well-being.

During pregnancy, a woman's body undergoes tremendous changes. Changes that result in a number of uncomfortable conditions. Massage during pregnancy may help relieve many of these complaints including low back pain, swelling of hands and feet, headaches, calf cramps, insomnia, sciatic pain and sinus congestion. It is suggested that massage therapy begin after the 13th week of gestation and that you consult with your physician to be sure you are a good candidate. For our pregnant clients we provide a pregnancy massage pillow, so that you may have the option to safely and comfortably, lie on your stomach, as well as your back or your side, during the massage.

Your massage can be tailored to suit you. Both 30 minute and 60 minute sessions are available. In addition the massage can be generalized, such as the full body massage, or may be limited to more specific areas such as head and neck, neck and back, etc. The cost is $35.00 for 30 minutes and $60.00 for 60 minutes.
